Best Cancun hotel for convention centre ?

Question :

We want a flight leaving UK 15th or 16th may 2010 return 2 weeks later but only want accommodation week 1 - near to the Cancun centre (as I have a conference there) - we will then travel after the meeting 23rd-30th and fly back end of the fortnight. Dont necessarily want full board, not the top of the range but not rubbish either! Any options Please advise Thanks

Answer :

Flights
Thomas Cook
Sunday 16th May - 14nts from Gatwick is currently £427pp inc taxes, baggage and meals (or £600pp for premium seats).
Thomson Airways
Sunday 16th May - 14nts from Gatwick is currently £539pp inc taxes, baggage and meals and same price departing 15th May.

Hotels (assuming 2 guests, 1 room)
Our best overall recommendation is 4* NH Krystal Cancun - very good location for the convention center, it's right in front of it.
Price at time of writing is just under £50 per room per night on "European Plan" (AKA Room Only). Free wi-fi included which might be useful? How does that sound ?
The cheapest rates we have tracked down for this hotel are at hotels.co.uk (deeplink to hotel info).

Plane hijacked in Cancun

A Mexican airliner with 104 passengers on board was hijacked in the resort of Cancun today and flown to Mexico City's international airport.

Security forces arrived at the airport, where the hijacked Boeing 737 plane from the airline Aeromexico stood on the runway. All the passengers and plane crew were able to leave the plane.

At least six suspected hijackers were arrested, according to local television stations. The country's Communications Minister Juan Molinar said that the situation is completely under control, that all passengers are safe and sound and that the six hijackers had managed to smuggle a bomb aboard the plane.

The plane, flown by Aeromexico, hijacked after it left the popular Caribbean resort of Cancun on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico

Mexican food in Cancun

One thing I miss from Cancun (Mexico) is the packets of salt and lemon peanuts.

A perfect partner to Tequila ;)

Other Mexican food that I miss from Cancun :

- Tacos.

- Tortillas of course.

- Seafood - seafood in Cancun is brilliant. The best fish soup I ever had was in downtown Cancun and cost probably a few pound.
